The Trail Blazers 4-H Club of Cochiti Pueblo was organized in the fall of 2001
and dedicated to improving the lives of our young people by using equine facilitated learning.
Working with horses, our youth developed a greater sense of responsibility,
caring and self-esteem, while achieving individual goals.

The club used the New Mexico State 4H Horse Program format to teach basic horse
care and riding techniques. Elected youth officers and members of the club played
a major role in the decision making process.
Their responsibilities included financial
decisions, donor acknowledgements, fund raising, community service, as well as all of
the general bookkeeping and record keeping requirements of the club.

A highlight of the year was attendance at NM State Horse School at the fairgrounds in
Albuquerque. Attended by 150 youth from all over New Mexico, volunteer instructors
provided an intensive learning experience of riding classes combined with horse-related
activities.
Trail Blazers 4H Club was a subsidiary of the Santa Fe County 4H program, a tax
deductible 501(c)(3) organization.
